Haiti steps to the forefront of Digital Television
By the synergy between Screen Service and BIG one of the most advanced television systems takes shape. DSS launches NUtv.
Miami, FL July 2012 - Screen Service, in cooperation with the System Integrator Broadcast International Group, is proud to announce the commercial launch of NUtv.
NUtv is able to serve its customers with 116 channels over a DVB-T2 Single Frequency Network (SFN) using 6 UHF channels.
Currently, the project is focused mainly in the Port Au Prince area. Through four different transmission points, the system broadcasts a DVB-T2 signal in order to provide Haitians with one of the most advanced broadcasting systems in existence to date. The state of the art system is composed of 24 SFN Transmitters and four Full Duplex Microwave Links.
The Screen Service SDT ARK6 Transmitters Series is the battle horse utilized to cover the challenging Port Au Prince topography. The transmitters broadcast through the SFN, using an output power ranging from 10W to 250W. The synergy of the transmitters over the same frequency channel makes it possible to bring coverage in large area using basic indoor rabbit antennas -- results hardly imaginable otherwise.
The Screen Service proprietary and cutting-edge technology makes possible this complex but robust system. One hundred sixteen A/V channels, microwave back-bone contribution and antenna patterns are brought together in a scalable system, streaming up to 310 Mbps.
Regarding the Headend transmitter link (STL), NUtv is using Skylinks HS-SDIDU bi-directional full duplex Split Mount Microwave Links with wide band options and a 310mbps transmission capability. This allows an effortless distribution of the heavy transport stream, along-with two-Way communication for Remote Monitoring and Telemetry Systems. Future upgrades are also possible with spare bandwidth.
SPX/Dielectric, the leader in UHF/VHF Antenna manufacturing since 1942, also provided its equipment and expertise on this project. SPX/Dielectric panels distributed on the four transmitting sites deliver an outstanding coverage result on the territory.
Ana Maria Sagastegui, President of the System Integration Company Broadcast International Group, says, “The launch of NuTV marks the first deployment in the Americas of DVB-T2 technology and the largest deployment in the world in number of channels. We are greatly impressed by the ease of installation and robustness of the Screen Service transmitters and IP microwaves. Moreover, something even more impressive is the fact that the actual coverage (indoor and outdoor) exceeded the original service map.”
“Screen Service is very proud to be the selected Network Equipment provider for NuTv and Broadcast International Group in this project – said Graziano Casale, Sales Director of Screen Service America – We believe that this project will be a reference-use case that will be a leading example to many countries looking to switch off to digital in the near future. This project brings together all the complex features that were brilliantly delivered by the Screen Service products and expertise. The level of coverage achieved for the 116 channels over six frequencies working seamlessly in SFN is impressive, and the use of a VPN system for the data contribution in a Full Duplex microwave link network is equally remarkable.”
